Indian Railways Enquiry - 139
Indian railway has been assigned with a telephone 139 to provide
information to the passengers regarding the Indian railway and
trains run by Indian Railway. You can get information about the
any train or PNR status from your home, by dialing 139.
To make
the process of enquiries regarding the trains, the status of the
trains and passenger ticket booking status the Indian Railways
department has launched the phone number for inquiry. By calling
the number and providing some basic inputs you can get information
about trains between stations, their arrival and departure time
and many more.
You can dial the number 139 from your BSNL landlines,
MTNL landlines, Dolphin, Garuda, Idea, Spice Telecom and Vodaphone
telecom operator enabled phones. As the other emergency services
like police and fire brigade now the railway enquiry services
will also be serving you at a uniform number across the country.
This would revolutionize the speed of providing information to
the passengers and also easier for the officials to provide information.
This attempt has been made to standardize the National Enquiry
System by keeping the same telephone No 139, nationwide. This
has been recently introduced by the Indian Railways Catering &
Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The previously used call centre no
‘131′ is be closed for service with effect from July 21, as said
a press release from the Southern Railway. So after this time
any queries related to railways, can be done by contacting them
on the abovementioned number 139 from allover India. The release
from the ministry also requested the passengers to contact telephone
No 139 for all their reservation related queries.
The information regarding the right running time of the train,
the PNR status, the cancellation of any train, scheduled departure,
and expected time of arrival if the training is running late can
be found by dialing the number. If you want to check the status
of your PNR, then you have to quote the number correctly when
you are doing an enquiry.
Standardizing the number and making it uniform across the country
is really a welcome task. One number across the country would
be easy to be remembered by passengers and being only three digits
it is convenient to use and faster to use. This attempt is certainly
going to information dissemination faster and easier. Passengers
can use this system from any city of the country get the necessary
information regarding their train journey.
