History of Indian railways
British introduced, designed and developed Indian railways in year 1853 when they were having their colonial rule of subcontinent. The exact date when railway was inaugurated in India is 16th April of 1853. By the partition in 1947, India has almost 42 rail systems serving the nation. However, in year 1951, all of these systems were united to make one.
Indian Railways at Present
Lots of improvements have been implemented to facilitate the passengers
nationally and internationally. Now, in order to differentiate
systems, railways system has been broadly categorized into six
different Indian Railway Zones are as follows:

Accommodation Classes
There are mainly two to three divisions of classes available which
differ in prices and facilities. These classes are 1st and 2nd
Class. In 1st class, passengers are provided with separate cabins
and they are both non AC & AC.
Other AC classes have 2 or 3 tier berths and 2 tier is more expensive than 3 tier. In AC class, passengers are provided with blankets, pillows and sheets.
Refreshments and meals are also part of the facilities for all reserved passengers.
Fares
It can be said about Indian railways that this is world’s cheapest
rail transportation means. People from middle to high class can
afford to travel in this rail system. Depending upon the preferences
and budget, passenger can choose to travel in any class.
Popular trains
Some of the popular trains include Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Lifeline
Express, Palace on Wheels and Samjhauta Express. The complete
railway system can be categorized as East India Travel, South
India Travel and North India Travel. These railways systems are
covering various interiors and remote parts of the nation. You
must book your tickets well in advance to avoid any conflict.
